St. Matthew Catholic Church & School

In 2011, Kopplow Construction built the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine for St. Matthew Catholic Church. This would be the first of seven projects that Kopplow has completed in the past eight years for the Parish.
Following the construction of the Shrine, Kopplow completed renovations to the sanctuary. They later completed a small renovation of the Parish Hall in 2012 followed by the renovation of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. The following year, Kopplow built the Baptismal Font.
Most recently, Kopplow Construction completed building the new St. Matthew Catholic Church Gymnasium. This 35,000 square foot facility boasts two regulation basketball courts (capable of being converted for volleyball), a concession area, locker rooms, athletic offices and three meeting rooms. In addition, Kopplow created an access drive from the school to Vance Jackson Road.

Potranco YMCA

A 55,000 sq foot interior renovation of an old grocery store facility. Kopplow completely demolished the interior and removed a large portion of the existing slab and entry feature to accommodate the new design. New work included the adding of new roof joists to facilitate a full court basketball gym and a large interior excavation for the installation of two new pools. New locker rooms, shower facilities, dance studios, and exercise areas were also included. An existing mezzanine area incorporated the additional exercise areas by adding new access stairs as well as housing the pool HVAC equipment. The exterior facade was redone with steel trellis work, metal paneling, wood paneling, cutting in additional windows around the entire perimeter, and painting the existing CMU walls along with new flatwork and landscaping along the front of the building. Included within this space is a 8,000 sq foot lease space being occupied by the San Antonio Public Library which partnered with YMCA on this project.

Mission Concepcion Sports Park

Mission Concepcion Sports Park is a multi-sport complex comprised of a 71,000 square foot tilt-wall gymnasium building that contains six competition basketball courts or twelve competition volleyball courts and seating for 540 spectators. The tilt-wall building contains additional square footage for concessions, sports training rooms, meeting rooms and administrative offices. Site improvements include four new youth baseball fields to Little League standards as well as dugouts, spectator seating, field lighting, concessions and restrooms. Additionally, there is a multi-purpose playing field for soccer, football and lacrosse with appropriate bleacher seating and lighting.

Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children

A new 60,000 square foot school facility for deaf children. The building is designed to blend into the existing site with exterior material consisting of masonry, cypress wood siding, galvanized metals, and glass. Interior finishes will utilize exposed masonry walls, cypress wood siding and have exposed ceiling structure. Large amounts of glass and the use of numerous skylights will provide plenty of natural light. The design of the mechanical system and wall/ceiling assemblies were critical for the overall performance of the learning environment for deaf children.

Cenizo Park Elementary School (Edgewood ISD)

A new 80,000 square foot elementary school including a gymnasium and cafeteria. Construction included a suspended slab, masonry interior, and exterior walls, standing seam roof, chilled water HVAC system, etc. Site improvements included new athletic fields, kinder play area, wrought iron fencing, exterior ball courts, and landscaping.

Oak Hills Terrace Elementary (Northside ISD)

The project consists of a library and administration addition of approximately 9,900 square feet at the existing elementary school as well as interior renovations to existing library converting to class rooms. Also included is the development of an exterior playground area and a fire access drive.

The building is comprised of three stories of parking garage and two stories of classrooms, laboratories, a library, student center, faculty offices, multi-media rooms and other support areas. The building has a pre-cast concrete structure with face brick and glass curtain wall exterior.

Wayland Baptist University

A new 35,000 square foot facility was built to operate the San Antonio Branch of Wayland Baptist University. The interior of the concrete structure was completed with classrooms, offices, break rooms, computer rooms, and multi-use areas. Exterior brick enhancements, seating areas and landscape work make for an enjoyable setting for the student body.

Cafeteria Addition (Lackland ISD)

Renovation work to the existing elementary and high school cafeterias occurred during the three-month summer break. Large areas of the existing facilities were demolished and reconfigured to receive new service lines, larger dining areas, and new windows. The main focus on the project was to have the existing cafeterias back in service prior to the first day of school, which we were able to do through closely managed schedules.
